"It Was Correct When It Was Written!" - The Simple Facts of William Sirbaugh and American Jido-Con

Bret Gordon has made it his mission to post repeatedly about things such as how honest and integrity are important parts of his martial arts training. He professes to adhere to the highest values in the martial arts today. To those that read his blogs, he implies he is beyond a level which mere mortals could ever attain. Without honesty we are prone to lie to ourselves and others about what we can do or what we can offer. With regards to frauds we find that most aren't really capable, not very productive members of the community, nor well-to-do. They generally hold menial and unchallenging jobs and are sorely lacking in their approach to life and their dealings with others. They exist in a fantasy world with an extraordinary image they imagine for themselves. They see themselves as "uber-martial artists" capable of great skills. The martial arts community has some very well-known fraudokas who have made a stellar career lying about their backgrounds.

One need only look at my blog here or the blogs of others to see where many of these men and women have fleeced their flocks of their hard-earned cash and limited amounts of time for the sake of some fame, prestige and a presence beyond their average existence. The role of a sensei or coach is to mold those people who come to them for training into the kinds of people we want to emulate in our society. Sadly fraudokas take advantage of such people and use them for their own gain. Over time Bret Gordon has proven to be a man who you cannot take at his word, you can also not believe his histories or his lineages when posted. He has come under scrutiny by his own hand.

Kaiso Bret Gordon. Headmaster, founder, living historian,
famous for his cosplays of  Ulysses S. Can't.

Bret Gordon came to the attention of my predecessor over two years ago with an ill-fated and poorly-written article attempting to defame a legitimate Judoka named Barron Shepherd. It was debunked entirely and Shepherd himself has recently made a public statement about the matter. Thanks to that little act of authorship he not only brought scrutiny on himself but opened the door for the exposure of those who stole the lineage of Samuel Lonewolf, a subject I have reported on for months now. Yes, to those exposed on that matter you have only to thank Bret Gordon because it was he who originally discovered the now disproven claim of Gary Lee and his friends.

I recently obtained some valuable information, and with that said I think it's time to revisit the story of Willaim Sirbaugh, Hatfield's step-father and the one link both Gordon and his teacher use to claim an established lineage for themselves with both Jidokwan and Tang Soo Do, and their "American Yoshinkan Aikijujutsu."

What a nice picture. So...historically accurate.

The Simple Facts of William Sirbaugh
and American Jido-Con

By Gerald J. Greysmith

Entering the Multiverse - Multiple Stories All Around

According to Gordon, Sirbaugh trained in Korea in or around 1971-1973, and always while he was stationed in the nation while serving in the military. Gordon has used this same picture to verify his teacher's step-father's lineage to Jidokwan and other Korean martial arts.

And there's that darned picture once more! Yargh!
Gordon has proof yet again!

Over the course of the last year and a half Gordon has struggled to keep the story straight. According to Bret Gordon the only consistent thing he has put forth about William Sirbaugh is that he allegedly trained in Korea in Moodukkwan around 1972. He has used this link to strengthen both his alleged link to the actual American Jidokwan Association of Ohio, as well as paraded it as proof of why he has the link to Korea which he claims "carries a lot of weight."

He even still has that same picture again, stating the man circled
is William Sirbaugh in 1972.

William Sirbaugh, Circa 1972

I have continually called into question the statements which Gordon has made with regards to his Jidokwan training and history. But what makes it worse is that I think he did it thinking no one would be smart enough to notice certain tell-tale signs about his "evidence" and the proof he claims shows Sirbaugh was linked to the Ohio folks as well as Korea.

Do you remember that picture I said to keep in mind? Apparently Gordon forgot to post the cropped version of this picture a few times. He left one very glaring detail in the bottom left corner which I feel demands a bit of further scrutiny.

Gordon claims the man circled is William Sirbaugh training in Korea, 1972. This photo was taken from his actual website some time ago during one of the many changes.

Notice the arrow pointing to something? That's a logo.

And that would be a logo for Moodukkwan.

I am well aware according to Gordon's site that he claims Sirbaugh trained in Moodukkwan in Korea, usually after Jidokwan.

"In late 1970, Sirbaugh would enlist in the US Army and be stationed in South Korea. It was then that he studied Moo Duk Kwan. After being discharged in 1973, he would return to Ohio and resume his training."  --- end quote.

According to the obituary for William D. Sirbaugh who passed away on April 21, 2009 he was 56 years old that year. This would put his birth year at or around 1952 or 1953. This is also confirmed on one of Gordon's own pages where he states the same date of death for William Sirbaugh.

You can read Sirbaugh's obituary here.

I was recently sent a link by an anonymous source to the Moodukkwan Historical site. On that site there are numerous historical photos which show training as far back as before the Korean War. The very picture that Bret Gordon has posted repeatedly on his website is found on this very site if you take a bit of time and look. I did so and it was quite surprising. If you want to see it you can go to this link here, and see the picture for yourself. It was loaded into the album in 2012 and not by anyone related to Gordon, Hatfield or Sirbaugh.

The picture in question was taken in 1959, not 1972 as Gordon claimed.

The man he has claimed for years as William Sirbaugh? You know, the man with the circle around him? That ain't Sirbaugh. His name is Lawarence Seiberlich, and he was the only man listed in the entire photo besides the teachers. Bret Gordon and Steven Hatfield have for years presented this photo across every iteration of their websites claiming it was Sirbaugh training in Korea in or around 1972, though I would bet they knew it wasn't him at all. They swiped it from this site and used it for their own purposes, creating their own (supposed) link to the Ohio Jidokwan Association.

As it turns out Lawrence Sieberlich is a noted practitioner of the Korean arts with long and lengthy training history that not surprisingly has nothing to do with Bret Gordon or his associations at all. He was the man which Gordon circled claiming that it was Sirbaugh in 1972. No, it was Mr. Sieberlich in 1959. Of all the people Gordon could have circled in that photo he circled the one man who is clearly the easiest identifiable person in the picture. How was he identified? His name is on the photo listed.

See?

But I digress. I'm sure it was correct when it was published, right?

Here ya go, fellas. I fixed it for you just in case you wanted to correct that later.

The Legend of Sirbaugh Continues

Gordon has swapped his stories around about his "history" so often that I would say with this lineage under scrutiny what else has he been lying about? His claims have been called into question since his rants against Barron Shepherd and the National Governing Bodies some years ago. With this picture it proves Gordon will go to any length to fabricate an entire martial arts background because he has spent years fabricating this one. He recently made his newest article detailing his many, many ranks and arts he's studied with many of them leading directly back to his teacher, Steven Hatfield. They have used this photo many times as I have said on every version of their page even through the consistent changes they've made over the last two years or more. You can view the picture on his own website, on the page with their history regarding Sirbaugh.

A screencap from 10/26/22 of his American Jidokwan website using the
same photo claiming Sirbaugh in Korea.

Also it is of note to know Gordon also wrote a blog on his USAMA page regarding this as well. In an article titled "We Want Nothing to do with Your Lineage." he uses this photo again, posted at the bottom. This, alongside multiple posts and articles where he discusses deceit and dishonor in the martial arts and here he is using a pilfered picture from the Moodukkwan Historical archives as a way to establish a false lineage that does not exist.

With this situation it indicates and shows to me and many others what we have suspected all along: the majority of his background is grounded in lies, alleged masters that do not seem to exist, and much of it hung on the life of William Sirbaugh himself. Gordon presented this photo here as factual evidence of one thing he considers very important....lineage. A lineage which now is proven to have been fabricated and made-up, existing only in the minds of Gordon and his teacher.

This article shows they have more than once doubled-down that Sirbaugh, the step-father of Steven Hatfield, was involved in the martial arts and they have attempted to trace their lineage back through him. It is convenient that Sirbaugh has passed away so there is no way to ask him of his involvement. What we do have is this picture has been provably stolen from an original site, watermarks intact, and Gordon's own changing testimonies and websites do not give much credit when paired beside it.

But then again I guess it was correct when it was written, huh?

  3. Doctor Dale Brian Dugas aka Kungfu Bearded Mantis
    "Contra Spoliaterem Omnia Praesumuntur"

    TO DALE DUGAS:
The notion that there exists a duty to preserve evidence relevant to a dispute, or potential dispute, is an ancient and well-documented common law principle. That doctrine likely goes back as far as Roman law. "Contra Spoliaterem Omnia Praesumuntur" is a Latin phrase meaning everything most to his disadvantage is to be presumed against the destroyer.

Essentially, the doctrine requires a party to preserve evidence when they know, or should know, that the evidence is likely to be relevant to pending or future litigation. Today, the term spoliation of evidence is often used during the process of civil litigation. It arises when one side suspects or uncovers that the other party has deliberately, negligently or accidentally destroyed evidence relevant to the case.

Spoliated evidence can include: physical objects, photographs, documents, and electronically stored information “ESI” and intra-state meta data.

In tort actions, the danger of spoliating relevant evidence lies primarily with the defendant Dale Brian Dugas. The plaintiff (or victim of the tort) does not usually control the location of the harm or have the ability to quickly access and examine documents and physical evidence related to the cause of the incident.

The victim also has no control over actions by the defendant to fix or remediate the problem that caused the harm to begin with. If the defendant Dugas does not properly preserve evidence related to the initial harm, it does so at its own peril.

Risk management companies spend a great deal of time and energy counseling individuals on how to "implement litigation hold” protocols. The protocols kick in immediately after an event and are designed to identify, collect, and preserve evidence to reduce the likelihood of a successful spoliation claim. When defendants like Dale B. Dugas don’t follow their own procedures, or give no thought to the issue, they make themselves vulnerable to "a claim of spoliation" and "a request for sanctions."

So that little spoliation of evidence thingy is double edged sword. A plaintiff and his counsel must also be mindful of their responsibility to preserve evidence. If a plaintiff has custody or control of evidence, they, too, run the risk of a spoliation claim if the necessary steps are not taken to prevent the loss or destruction of evidence. Inaction by the plaintiff can also result in adverse consequences.

An analysis of the opposing party defendant Dale Dugas willful or negligent destruction or alteration of evidence which may have been favorable to the plaintiff can uncover pivotal information crucial to the case. Additional lawsuit conspirators ie. Greysmith and Lordus Sapiens are just a few ISP servers away. These two masked supposed MMA bloggers actually have been egging on the aggressive Kungfu fighter Dale Dugas to do something. Kick somebodies asses. It is common knowledge, so why is everybody hiding here on now...?

    1. Interesting. So how do you account for the many changes Gordon made on his websites over the years, testimony from Ohio members of Fuzy's dojo stating his sensei's daddy never trained there, the fact that Gordin has deleted numerous postings, hid evidence from the public and now sports a 6th degree black belt in GJJ/BJJ with the only record being paper tiger Reylson Gracie?

You sure know a good deal about this case before it hits the docket fucktard. Surely Gordon's friends aren't filling you in are they? I mean reading the docket there's over 100 pieces if evidence Dugas loaded in months ago. It shows Gordon's many subtle and not so subtle changes to his claims..

Ah well. Frauds of a feather, right?
