Dorian: The Magic Continues

Part Three

"Allegiances and Alliances"

by Gerald Greysmith

David Richardson has gone quiet. Ban BSMA remains without any postings by him since June 13th, 2020 as of the time of this article's release. Additionally Melody Holland, his female alter ego has also gone silent, too.

It seems things are not so good in his camp. Lordus Sapiens released an article about him and his recent antics and also in a separate one discussed Richardson's theory of who his identity really is (and got it completely wrong...I'm not even sure who Lordus really is myself.) However in these articles he pointed out singular behavior patterns that also show the man to be acting in an erratic and, as I stated, desperate manner unbecoming of any martial artist preaching integrity and honesty at the world.

Yet still Dorian the Magician remains unmoving and  what ties all of these events together I believe are three major developments.

1) Richardson claimed to have been a magician and performer for The Magic Castle. This has been completely torn to shreds by one of my articles recently. He worked for them once in 1998, the same year he allowed his membership to expire.

2) Two of his main arguments were laid bare and explained, as well as exposed, by Cayce Lancaster in his most recent blog post at his site. One of those were the claims he made about the man known today as Yasuke and his true story as it is recorded in the annals of Japanese history. Additionally he discussed at length the story of Ronald Duncan, the alleged father of American Ninjutsu and his claims to Koga Ryu.

This would be Tokyo today if not for a concerted effort on behalf of the
privileged colonialist Samurai who stopped Yasuke.

3) Due to his follies on Facebook he sought refuge in the one place no fraud should ever go...Bullshido. Yes, the wanna-be Merlin went to the one place that debunks frauds for fun and even has had members travel to fight the so-called partial artists in their native lands. This resulted in one very unforeseen instance taking place. David was challenged by Dale Dugas, himself a true Chinese martial arts practitioner and Doctor of Acupuncture from Florida. As of today Richardson has not responded to the challenge on Bullshido or to Dugas on Facebook despite putting a video dedicated to him on his personal Facebook group calling him "Kung Fu Panda."

What began as a way to run his mouth at his detractors quickly came to the attention of many members of the forum who seemed to be watching it develop with rapt attention. David Richardson, aka Dorian the Magician, aka NinjaMagik, aka Melody Holland, had gone to seek help from members of Bullshido. This was the very same webpage who's members had outed Ashida Kim for his selling black belts in Vale Tudo and publicly called him out about it. He sought help thinking he could continue to pester Don Roley, Lordus Sapiens and myself along with many, many others. What response he did get was one that I doubt he thought would happen.

He got challenged along with the entire BDFS, Frank Dux and Ashida Kim all at the same time.

Yes, I would safely say that Dugas is a very proficient practitioner and made it clear Richardson had made a calculated mistake. Now, on a public forum that his sycophants from Ban BSMA dare not to follow him to he was challenged by a member in good standing who he had angered...and angered quite quickly.

I would speak to Dugas later that day and he informed me that the challenge is authentic and true and he awaits still the challenge to be answered by Richardson. Seems some people take defamation of character seriously in this world, eh Dorian?

The inevitable answer from Richardson. Additionally responses from Ban BSMA were met with derogatory messages and other responses involving the middle finger.

But this path was started for Richardson long ago. His quest for martial knowledge while seeming to be placed within the confines of the Bujinkan had far more humble beginnings. You see, it would almost seem that his entire martial arts career is coming full-circle now. As I've mentioned many times along with others who have covered his shenanigans we can see that his training truly began with the one...the only...Frank Dux.

If belts could kill....

The (not-so) Secret Man

Frank Dux has been discussed to death over the years, but for the sake of continuity and to ensure Richardson's affiliations permanently I will briefly cover the basics here.

From his alleged beginnings as a live-in student of the supposed Tiger Tanaka he would immediately leave to fight in the "Kumite" where he apparently used the Speed Force like Barry Allen to handily defeat the world's greatest and deadliest combatants. From there we shift to his supposed service in Southeast Asia saving orphans from Filipino Pirates with his golden Kumite katana he claimed to have won. Then he claims to have been after that (or sometime around then) teaching his tactics to the special forces and making them as deadly as he claimed to be. And finally we see him have his entire story told to the world at large in the epic film Bloodsport where he avoids capture from Forrest Whitaker and an equally inept military policeman who both at the end cheer him on as he overcomes the giant bad guy from Enter the Dragon.

The REAL story about Dux, however, is far from the fairy tale you see above. Coming from humble origins he attended high school like any other normal person. He graduted from Ulysses S. Grant High School located in scenic Valley Glen, a suburb of Los Angeles.

Dux in high school.

It would be after graduation our young hero would ship off to Basic Training and Marine Boot Camp most likely at MCRD San Diego. He would spend a few years as a wireman in a Marine Reserve Unit located in California where he saw about as much action as last week's pizza box. Now here is where his stories begin getting murky. He initially claims (and still does to this day so far as I have been able to ascertain) that he received a Medal of Honor for his services in Asia. However in 1978 he was referred for psychiatric services for "disconnected ideas of grandeur" which means he was possibly having a hard time grasping reality. Maybe it was his desire to be more than he was without the work needed to do it? Whatever it was an article series releasing the results of his records obtained legally and made public thanks to a FOIA show these things to be the relative facts as they stand. There were no missions to Southeast Asia, he never saved orphans, nor did he give his "sword" to the pirates in exchange for them.

Frank using the Speed Force to run wires in the name of Democracy and Freedom.

With these claims being debunked it brings to question his claims of winning the supposed "Kumite" in the Bahamas of which to this day no evidence has ever been presented of it's existence. Even Richardson admitted to myself and my partner in a telephone call that Dux at one time claimed footage of the event existed and he had it, but Richardson could find nothing to prove that when they lived together in the early 1990's.

Dux showing that size does indeed matter.

More startling beyond that is the lengths by which Dux has gone to protect these fabrications over the years. His insistence that his "haters" or whatever he calls them (they all give their detractors names) have worked to subvert him. One such excuse is a pamphlet covering some of his alleged achievements which Dux has claimed were funneled into his school by his enemies in the martial arts community.

Dux himself has openly attempted to dox Don Roley in much the same way as Richardson. Instead of videos he instead writes op-eds which spawn here and there in order to give himself a chance to air his "proof" which seems to end and begin with him.

Talking to someone close to Dux sometime ago who now avoids him at every turn informed me that Dux passed around a made-up resume in Hollywood years ago which eventually landed him a chance to have his story made into a movie. Then seemingly without missing a beat he tried and to some degree succeeded in parlaying that into a career of fight choreography on some films. Among them were Lionheart and Only the Strong, the latter being his swan song in the industry as his façade began to crack. From walking into shots while filming or about to be filmed, to not working, and apparently pissing off Mark Dascascos as well, Dux's time in Hollywood was ending.

This is totally a "Me and the Boys" meme format if you think about it.

Yes, ladies and gents, Frank Dux has been debunked in so many ways over the years. And it seems it never stops changing with him either. And this is the man whom David Richardson began his early years of training with. He admitted publicly at one point due to the lack of evidence on Dux's end that he could not support him any longer yet now proudly sports his Dux Ryu 3rd Dan as well as his Bujinkan 1st Dan.

So why leave, come back and then offer unwavering support? Anyone's guess is as good as another as Richardson is quite mum on the subject. But we do know that he associates with him regularly on his Facebook groups and Dux is quite supportive it seems of Richardson as he maniacally sends out his once daily videos in a most harassing way.

Richardson prior to June 2020 as he methodically and without mercy made another Facebook post.

Well, it seems that we can find either the whole answer or, rather a portion of it here. From an old post found on Pinterest of all places Richardson lays out allegations against Dux. For the reader's convenience I am posting them here as screenshots enlarged so you can read them. These are the words of Richardson himself.

With this Richardson claims that his former teacher threatened a man by the name of Sifu Greg Holland. I personally have no idea to whom he is referring to in this situation. But additional searches in the same Pinterest account revealed this as well.

This article reveals some very interesting points of which I discussed earlier. Dux's claim to have been given a Medal of Honor, but secretly, are discussed here. It is known that a MOH would never be given under cover. Additional information gleaned from this information presented is that he also apparently claimed to have beaten up world-famous kickboxer Benny "The Jet" Urquidez. I had never heard this before but multiple sources do cite this as a true story and one even calls Dux an LA Cop for some reason. (I've never heard he was a cop.)

You can view the discussion here.

From that point you can also read the Los Angeles Times write up about Dux and his claims. It seems to cover quite well both his tall tales as well as debunks them with a very interesting series of quotes from Shoto Tanemura, head of the Genbukan Organization, his former student Chad Minge and many others including Stephen K. Hayes. It also covers the aforementioned psychiatric evaluation.

I find one thing, however, that is missing from many of the articles about Dux. Most people don't know but he was actually in a fight in front of witnesses one time that is verified and well....it didn't go very well for the head of Dux Ryu and alleged student of Tiger Tanaka.

Tanaka possibly training Dux on how to use all that spy equipment.

-sad noises-

There was an incident involving the ninja master which he told me a version of on the phone last year. In that conversation he brought up (for no apparent reason along with his story of the Kumite) that in case I was wondering, he had not been beaten fairly by Zane Frazier. Puzzled, I asked him what he meant. He then claimed Frazier had used a pair of brass knuckles to sneak attack him at a UFC expo and trade show.

In truth Dux's claim couldn't be further from the truth. As it turns out on Frazier's Wikipedia entry it says he earned his spot in the UFC1 the year of this event by beating Dux in a street fight. However I think a more realistic version is the one most people commonly tell and that is as follows:

Here is the exact magazine article in question:

Taken from Karate International
Magazine Nov 1993 from Jay T. Will's column "Kempo Korner":
"UNREST AT THE MARTIAL ARTS TRADE SHOW.
---------------------------------------
At the second annual Draka Martial Arts Trade Show held at the Century
City Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, California, a skirmish broke out between
Kenpo Black Belt and WKA's #1 rated heavyweight kickboxing contender Zane
Frazier and Grand Master Frank W. Dux.  As many of you know, Frank Dux is
the character the film "Blood Sport" was modeled after.  According to
several well known black belts (Frank Trejo, Ray Wizzard) present at the
incident, Dux moved in on Frazier and Frazier hit Dux several times in the
face dropping Dux to the floor.  Frazier finished the action by body
slamming him into the next booth.  Security officials restored order to
the trade show with no further incidents. Glad to hear Zane survived the
incident without serious injury."

This article was like an ad in the classified section of a newspaper.
Nothing exciteing.  Interesting to note... Zane Frazier was in UFC I, and
was defeated by Kevin Rosier.  Ray Wizzard was in UFCII I believe, but I've
never seen his fight...
Gee, I hope Zane didn't hurt his hands or strain his back.
Hey, if Frank Dux is the "World Champion of the Real Bloodsport", why
doesn't he enter the UFC ?  Also, where are all the fighters that he
defeated ???  Why haven't they signed for the UFC?  Guess Mr. Dux's
imagination couldn't produce the real goods... :-)

This seems to be the MOST told version and seems to coincide with Frazier's comments on the situation as well. Did Dux really try to slide up and sneak attack an MMA fighter that night? If so then this report sounds like it didn't go very well at all.

Mere mortals melt under the penance of this glare.

An interview with Dux about various topics, to include his neverending supply of sunglasses.

Putting up his Dux

David Richardson has been very vocal in his defense of Frank Dux as well as other frauds in the martial arts community who are not only confirmed but also outright proven to be hostile. He has defended Bryce Dallas of Konigun Ninjutsu, Dan Harmon, convicted felon Ron Collins....I've covered this ad nauseum now.

However his defense of Dux is the most unique one to me because of their history as well as their on-again and off-again relationship over the years, he knows him personally. What I do know is that for the time being he is very agitated and violent towards anyone who speaks out against his ally. This may be another reason he tries to lash out at Roley and all members of BSMA on Facebook and now, it would seem Bullshido can be added to that list as well.

Obsession is a strong word, Dorian. Something you should probably look in the mirror to see.

And with all that said about his association and friendship with such a questionable person I put forward one more tidbit I've only touched on so far. Perhaps the reason Dorian hangs on to Dux is because he has burned so many bridges in his life with others he has no one else to turn to. Do I know this for certain? No I don't. But he seems to project outwardly his true persona as someone who doesn't take kindly to being disagreed with. With his training in such a questionable and controversial system to begin with, maybe he seeks to link himself distantly with someone else in order to maintain his legitimacy. And that brings me to ask why he puts one picture in all of his videos over...and over again....

This photo of Richardson alongside Stephen K. Hayes and his wife, Rumiko is featured constantly in his videos made to harass and defame others. In response to this my curiosity has been peaked. Is he attempting to claim to be a student of Mr. Hayes and his martial art of Toshindo? Is he a student of a Quest Center by chance? At the time of this article's publication I have not had a response from Mr. Hayes or his team at the Dayton Quest Center. I want to be clear at this time I personally do not think Richardson is a Toshindo student but Mr. Hayes would do well to be informed that a photo of himself with Richardson is being used in materials seeking to cause problems for someone else. The use of such a photo is not representative of the actions of a martial artist (Dorian.)

And with that I leave this article ending with a question. To what end did Richardson think this would go and what was the intended result? All of these actions have been seemingly in vain for something that was not only debunked, but easily so. Richardson seems to be as I have said before reliving his glory days now gone by. He claimed to us in a phone call he wanted to fight Roley but when Roley took up the challenge he backed away quite fast and skitted about trying to change locations regularly.

Roley on the other hand played a card to ferret out another of his fake accounts on Facebook and convince him he had a messed up leg. This led to Richardson attempting to dox him further and with nothing short of hilarious results. And now in a month he has gained another challenge from another martial artist who seems pretty hell-bent on making him answer to it.

I guess time will tell. This article is in no way meant to defame or cause issues for anyone mentioned but to merely put together the reasons and motives as to why they seek to do act in the way which they do. In the end the truth has been borne and Richardson remains pacified for the time being. His claims, his contentions, his anger all seems to have started him on a path to this and now that he is here I wonder to myself...was it worth everything he has gotten? Was verbally bashing innocent people who were just there worth all of this? How about making light of the victims of the frauds we have covered, both my team and others? How about the fact now that his claims are out in the open they're slowly being revealed one at a time like peeling back a rotten onion?  And was the allegiance he held to people like Frank Dux paying off for him in terms of having backup to make his claims? If anything I think his motive to that comes down to one last grasp at a legitimate way to pander his own "system" of American Ninja Warrior Concepts.

David Richardson and Frank Dux are two sides of a coin. Both are cast in the same mold with the same metal however in the end spend for the same amount.

But Frank has that awesome Hanshi Belt, Richardson take notes.
That's the secret to legitimacy right there.

Addendum - also my partner has released an article in the vein of this discussion. View it here as well.
